Ciao!

This is my personal blog: a place to document what I build and what I am learning.

If you are interested in working with me, you can find my professional details here, though it is kept minimal. I can tell you more about my work experience and projects if you reach out to me.

Most of my side projects and useful links are gathered on the links page.

Plastic Dreams Review

This article is in Italian. If you want to read it in English, just translate it with your favorite browser.

Arkavoid è un progetto di Davide Panetta (al basso) che attinge direttamente dalla cultura synth anni 80 e la ripropone in chiave moderna. Il genere è conosciuto come synthwave.

Plastic Dreams From Another World é il primo album di questo progetto.

Copertina

La copertina é molto bella da fuori, ricca di dettagli e colori.

Touhou Project

This small guide aims to become the main guide for all those who would like to play Touhou Project (abbreviated as TH), but don’t know where to start and how to set up the right emulator.

Note that I only tested this guide on an Anbernic portable console (I told you about it in another article) precisely because I wanted to test how comfortable it actually was play it and because there isn’t much material online, neither in English nor in Italian.

New Year New Blog

Hi everyone.

Hope you had a good time with your family or friends on New Year’s Eve.

The act of starting something means hard commitment and sacrifice in our lives.

Maybe not, if you like what you’re doing, but most of the time, if you are not following just one topic at time, you will have plenty of things to do.

Well, when I’ve started this blog, I planned to just have a personal space. Unfortunately this is no more possible: I have started a lot of projects , and I have less time for each of them.

GARR Academy

The beginning

It all started with a dear friend of mine who sent me this link regarding a never heard before ‘Garr Academy’.

Who’s Garr?

Well, I knew Garr because when I was a child I used to download Ubuntu from the closest mirror to me… which belonged (and still belongs) to Garr.

So, it is a very cute story to tell, but yes, I knew Garr for years.

By the way, Garr is a consortium that holds the entire Italian infrastructure. They have three main datacenters (Milan, Rome, and Bari) and a ton of nodes in Italy.

RLJ #3

Did you miss me? Me too. Me neither. It depends.

This is another issue of your favorite Journal, full of links, things to see, things to watch, and… let’s go!

Introduction

Planning is the key. But I hate planning.

I wrote some months ago “I will have some spare time this summer. I’d like to plan some articles until the end of this year”.

Hehe, joking. When I started RLJ3 was in June, and I still had many things to do.

MacOS Linux

I am a proud user of xfce4, it is my favorite DE: clean, highly customizable, and without too much fancy stuff. It does its job.

However, I could save some time by having certain customization (zsh for example), and making it more beautiful looking: having a system which is eye-candy for eyes, at least this work for me, let me be more productive.

Mac-look-a-like

Mac: theming XFCE

Ever dreamed about having a Mac? I like Apple’s look since ever, but I don’t own a modern Apple computer. Despite this, I think their UI elements are clean and highly recognizable, making a system more usable.

Summertime sadness

Losing files, especially if important, is always an unpleasant sensation, that anybody should avoid in their entire life.

It feels you dumb, because you could have done a backup, frustrated because of “why me?”, occasionally mad with all the machines in the world and really sad about the loss of your files.

Most especially, if this happens in critical situation, like you’re going on holiday and you’re transferring your files between two of yours hard drive because “hey, what a wonderful idea to free some space from the hard drive the night before leaving! What could ever go wrong?”, it could entirely ruin your relaxing vacation.

HP Envy Hackintosh

In the past years, I had an occasion to see (and have for a few days) on an HP Envy m6 running MacOS.

What’s not working in Hackintosh HP Envy m6?

- ethernet card with just RTL file: you will need a special kext, since it is slightly different than the official one
- keyboard and touchpad: you will need some kext in this folder
- audio: see the post-install guide.

- fingerprint sensor: not interested in fixing this
- wifi card: unless someone writes a driver it is unfixable
- DRM: it could be fixed according to post-install guide
- sleep: it could be fixed according to post-install guide
- battery: it could be fixed according to post-install guide

Fix Audio

The number that worked to me is alcid=13 for IDT IDT92HD91BXX it may be different for you.

RLJ #2

Welcome back into another RLJ 2! It’s been a while since I did one of them, this time I’ve decided to structure it in a really different way: what I’ve done in the entire year couldn’t be summed up in an article. For this reason, I will leave a bag full of links, hoping to stimulate your curiosity.

On life

⁉️ Dunning-Kruger effect

The effect of a person believing themselves to be superior and putting themselves on the same level as an expert, even if they are not very experienced. The opposite also applies: people who are very knowledgeable about something find themselves underestimating themselves.
